Forecast for the weekend is improving with some sunshine and more importantly the wind will be easing off for everyone. Todays picture a summers morning looking towards Harwich and Manningtree, to remind us of better days.

At last a beautiful day here in Harwich Harbour, wind is southerly blowing 8 to 10 knots with a sea breeze developing as the day goes on. Forecast for tomorrow looking a little damp with showers most of the day. The weekend forecast however is alot better with some sunshine and light breezes from the south. Shotley Point Yacht club are running an RYA Push the Boat Out initiative on Saturday 20th. This a day designed to encourage people to come along and try a day out on the water. SPYC will also be running their Crew Poole Day which is a new initiative to put crew and skippers in contact for day trips and cruises. Next month three SPYC members, Talora, Baltic Cloud and Goldfinch will be leaving Shotley Marina to circumnavigate the UK returning in the Autumn. No doubt there will be plenty of farwel parties! Fianlly we have ten new trollies available for people to use when moving their baggage etc to and from the boats.

Good afternoon and welcome to a glorious day here in the Harbour at Felixstowe and Harwich. We have wall to wall sunshine this afternoon with a south east breeze blowing 10 knots average. People are actually out on their boats  enjoying the sunshine! Temperature is still a little cool with a wind chill of 6 degrees C. Important date for your diary. Monday 15th May there will be a Mini Lock Closure. Following a hefty collision of the inner gate when a boat lost all reverse propulsion inbound one of the gate sluice rams has begun to leak hydraulic oil. As a tempory measure we have shut down the hydraulics to that ram. We will however have to shut the lock for approx three to four hours to investigate and possibly change the ram. Please bear with us for those few hours on Monday morning. Other dates coming up are the RYA Push the boat out day here at the Marina organised by Shotley Point Yacht Club. That will be held on Saturday 20th May. Following on from that, the Shotley Point Yacht Club will also be hosting an open weekend on the 27th and 28th May, the bank holiday weekend. All are welcome. There will be stalls and attractions on the Shipwreck lawn and around the marina.

Ships Blog 12th April 2017

Here we are almost halfway through April and Easter upon us already. Last few weeks have been busy here at the marina with people getting their boats ready for the new season. The yard crew are flat out getting boats back in the water for Easter. In the last few days we have had a number of emergency lift outs with fouled propellers and groundings, however there will not be any naming or shaming!! Forecast for bank holiday weekend is looking a mixed bag at the moment. Friday there may be a few showers and Saturday is going to be windy – normal for Easter you might say. Other news. The Harwich Harbour Ferry has been running since the beginning of April and appears to be going from strength to strength. Recent Notices To Mariners will have informed everyone that the seasonal recreational marks have been deployed by HHA. That includes such buoys as the East Cardinal marking the end of the Harwich Shelf. Work continues apace with the new Shotley Lodge development where the retaining wall has now been put in and the ground works and foundations will be completed soon. Happy Easter!
