Morning all. The story of the day is the flood warnings out for the east coast. This mornings predicted surge for the harbour has died away so far and now everyones attention is turning to the tide tonight at 00.32hrs. At the moment the surge is predicted to reach 1.38m above prediction. We are of course keeping a close eye on the situation. All the boats in the marina will be checked and will be safe during any surge. During any surge we will suspend operation of the lock for safety reasons ( not that we think we will see much demand!) We will keep you posted as best we can.

Current weather forecast is looking quite lively for next few days with both strong winds and snow forecast! There are currently 23 flood alerts and 6 flood warnings for the east coast tonight. We are closely monitoring the situation here at the marina. All the boats around the marina will be routinely checked by the staff to make sure they are secure. On current forecasts there is no danger to the marina. Thames Guardian the Environment Agency survey vessel has locked in this afternoon to stay with us for a few days.

Morning all and welcome to the Ships Blog. Outlook for the weather is certainly looking changeable for the rest of the week. Rumours abound of a cold snap arriving by the weekend or possibly even earlier. For those of us who don’t read the Daily Express I think the picture is a continueing the theme of warm/cold over the next few few weeks! Shotley Point Yacht Club are haveing a Sea Safety Day on Saturday 14th January. This will include a talk by the Harwich RNLI crew re  operations at the Harwich Station. All berth holders from Shotley are welcome.

Happy New Year to everyone, hope you all had a good Christmas! The marina dredge is now well underway with pontoons and fairways B,C and D almost complete. On a few occassions  the suction cutter has become blocked requiring downtime to clear the problem. The culprits have been cable ties, sponges and rags – food for thought next time we are working on our boats. The weather forecast is looking quite cold for the next few weeks so the water has been turned off on the pontoons to prevent any burst pipes. Our picture today is of the three masted boat that used to be anchored off Shotley for some 25 years. She blew ashore during a recent storm and has now been towed to Lowestoft to be broken up.
