As some of you have become aware there have been a number of changes to the diesel that marinas are allowed to supply to boat owners. The amendment to the European Fuel Quality Directive came into force on the 1st of January 2011. In essence it means that all boats using the inland waterways have to use low sulphur content diesel with a bio-fuel content of up to 7%. However sea going vessels are exempt from this ruling. There was some concern that the fuel supply companies would only supply low sulphur diesel with the bio-fuel content as well because they were not geared up to supply anything else. However lobbying by the RYA and the marinas has meant that we are now being supplied with A2 grade diesel. This is still a low sulphur content diesel but with no biofuel content. This means there will be no concerns about the diesel in your fuel tank going ‘ off’ during the season and clogging up your fuel lines and fuel filters. If you have any questions regarding this matter then please do not hesitate to speak to John in the Control Tower
After eight years it has become necessary for us to carry out some routine maintenance dredging in the marina. This is due to silt and mud that has come in through the lock on free flow. Dredging will start on or as close to the 7th of March and may last up to 25 days. The appointed dredging company is Goodchild Marine who are based near Great Yarmouth. The area to be dredged will be from the D pontoon through to the G linear berth where visitors are often put overnight. All the owners of boats in the affected area have been contacted. The dredged material will be passed over the sea wall on to our foreshore as beach replenishment. Any body wishing to lock out during the operation should contact the control tower who will ensure the pipe work is sunk to the bottom of the marina allowing boats to exit even when the water level in the marina is at its lowest during neap tides. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact the staff in the control tower.
Our Ablution block is undergoing its annual make over at the moment. New shower heads and curtains are being fitted whilst the cubicles are being thoroughly cleaned. Doors are to be painted and some of the windows will be replaced where they have become rotten. The sticky door to the ladies will be fixed and the door mechanisms will be serviced. The work is going to take another three weeks and we will open them on the 18th March.
